Devastation in Colorado. My home.

For those of you I know who lost something or everything in the Marshall fire at the end of last year in Colorado, I hope this is not offensive or triggering to share these photos. I am home for the first time in awhile and my dad wanted to walk me through the area, two blocks from his house, where the fire destroyed many houses yet spared others. His was one spared and I know he feels incredibly lucky and is still somewhat in disbelief about it. Seeing it firsthand, the way the fire jumped from place to place…really surreal. My heart aches.
I think sometimes we think bad things happen but can’t happen to us, sometimes, and then they do. I won’t speak on my own experience in this post but I know it’s true. Do we or can we prepare for bad things? Or do we just gather ourselves after the fact and rally around friends and family?
